One-Day Workshop on ‘Thalassemia Awareness Talk and Thalassemia Screening Camp’

In a compelling effort to promote social awareness and health consciousness, Kamkus College of Law (KCL), Ghaziabad, in association with Rotary Club of Delhi, Safdarjung, organized a transformative workshop on 19th September, 2025, titled ‘Thalassemia Awareness Talk and Thalassemia Screening Camp.’ Thalassemia, recognized under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, is one of the major blood disorders classified as a disability in India due to its chronic nature and lifelong medical dependency. This initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to community engagement and preventive healthcare.

Inauguration Ceremony:

The event commenced at approximately 11:00 AM with traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. Guests were warmly welcomed with bouquets of flowers, setting a gracious and respectful tone for the day.

The workshop was honoured by the presence of several distinguished personalities:

  • Dr. Sunita Jetly, a distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Science at Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi.

The guests’ speakers shared valuable insights into the causes of Thalassemia, the importance of early detection and genetic counselling, and emphasized the crucial role of youth – not only in understanding and being aware of the condition themselves, but also in actively spreading awareness among others.

Students, faculties, and all other attendees actively engaged in interactive discussions, posed thoughtful questions, and participated in the Thalassemia screening camp, which offered free health check- ups and genetic screening. The camp served as a vital opportunity for students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff and gain awareness of their genetic predisposition.

As the event drew to a close, Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Principal of KCL delivered a heartful vote of thanks. He expressed deep gratitude to the esteemed guests for their enlightening contributions and to the Rotary Club of Delhi, Safdarjung for their collaboration in this noble cause. He also acknowledged the support of Director Sir, organizing team, and the enthusiastic participation of students, faculty, and non-teaching staff.

Impact of the Event:

‘The Thalassemia Awareness and Screening Camp’ held at KCL, Ghaziabad, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Delhi, Safdarjung, had a profound impact on multiple levels – educationally, it enhanced understanding of Thalassemia among all the attendees; medically, it provided free health check-ups and genetic screening that enabled early risk identification; socially, it fostered a sense of responsibility and inspired attendees to spread awareness within their communities. Director Sir also assured that similar awareness and remedy-focused camps addressing other serious health issues will be organised in the near future, reinforcing the college’s commitment to public health and social responsibility.
